Study Time-Using the TLC on the 27th Floor, October 16th at 2:00 PM, PFT 14th floor.

The residents will be challenged to study more for their classes by utilizing various campus resources and examine how they manage time and balance their lives.  By participating in this program, residents will be able to identify and work to overcome obstacles that hamper goal achievement.

Monday, October 17th

Dear Mom and Dad…, Monday October 17th 7:00PM, PFT 5th floor

Each resident will take a picture and write a short letter home.  The photos will be put in a collage and printed for each resident.  By participating in this program, residents will be able to covey meaning in a way that others understand by writing and speaking coherently and effectively.

Resident will be encouraged to come and study with other residents. Unfortunately, the residents aren’t allowed to talk, because this is a two hour study sessions. Light Snacks will be provided.  We are striving to increase our GPA’s.

Letters for Dadaab-Monday, October 17

Residents will be encouraged to sign form letters to various political figures imploring them to take immediate action in order to provide assistance to the Dadaab Refugee Camp in Kenya.  This program is meant to raise awareness for the devastating famine in East Africa and promote the Dadaab Dining Experience program taking place November 14-16.

Honors Advising for Spring 2012– Tuesday, October 18th, 7-8PM and Wednesday, October 19th 7:30-8:30PM, Minton Study Room

Ami Carter, Coordinator for Academic Advising & Retention from the Honors College will come into the hall and advise Minton residents from Spring 2011 classes. This event fits perfect into Minton’s October theme of our residents “Understanding Academic Needs”. Honors College students who participate in advising will be able to identify the classes they will need to register for Spring 2011. The students who attend this event will be able to begin to build a relationship with Honors College staff, particularly Ami Carter.

Dance the Night Away! – Wednesday, October 19th, 7-10pm, Main Lobby

We will be playing Dance Central and handing out Preston Group work out schedules.  We will be building community and promoting healthy lifestyles.  Residents provided an excellent turn out for the last dance program we provided, so we are hoping for those same great numbers and ability to provide the Preston information.

Residents will practice chants, paint their bodies, enjoy snacks, and get excited about Homecoming before heading over to the Pep Rally!

Our goal is to increase school spirit amongst the Keen residents and encourage positive activities during homecoming weekend.

Halloween Dessert Get Together, October 21st 7:00PM 12th floor study lounge

The residents will bake their own Halloween Dessert and share with the rest of the group.  Here they will be able to get to know each other more and interact with each other. Through this program, residents will be able to establish healthy, mutually beneficial relationships with others.

Bowling! Friday October 21st, 8:00PM, DUC

The people on PFT floor 19 will be going to DUC and they will be bowling, playing pool and using the various resources available up there.  By participating in this opportunity, students will be able to engage in behaviors and contribute to environments that promote health and reduce risk.
