First Year Room Selection

First Year Room Selection gives you the opportunity to select your residence hall room for your first year at Western Kentucky University!

In order to select your space, you must first complete a WKU Housing Application.

Incoming Students & Families

Join us for the First Year Room Selection Webinar on Tuesday, March 24 at 6:00 PM CDT. Register Now.

Depending on when you completed your housing application, you will receive an email with the date and time in which room selection opens and closes for you.

Your time frame for room selection is based on when your housing application was completed — those who completed earlier will receive earlier time slot selections.

You will not have the ability to view available bed spaces until your time slot officially opens.

When you are eligible to select your room:

Login to the WKU Housing Portal via my.wku.edu
Select "Select My Housing" from the top menu
Select "Continue" on your Academic Year 2026-2027 application
Using the timeline links at the top, navigate to the last completed page of your application (for most students, it's Choose a Roommate).  On this page, select save and continue to  the "Room Selection" pages
Select a hall and room from the available options
- If your desired building does not appear, it means there are no spaces available in that specific hall at this time. We advise you to continue looking for availability at your convenience.
- If you have a verified roommate, be sure to book them into a bed space.
Select "Save and Continue"
You (and roommate assigned, if applicable) will receive an email confirming the assignment, and the final page of the application will provide a summary of your housing status

April 1 at 11:59 PM CDT

Deadline to apply for housing & participate in first year room selection

Want your top preferences? Ensure your housing application is completed (including selecting your preferred roommate).

Housing & Residence Life will be continue to accept housing applications after this deadline.

April 8

Timeslot assigned

You will receive an email with your assigned date and start time for first year room selection. This email will be sent to your personal email AND WKU email.

First year room selection will not be available to you until this timeslot.

April 13

Living Learning Community and priority first year room selection begins

Students will receive a personalized email with directions to complete their selection.

April 15 - April 29

First year room selection continues (per timeslot)

Students will receive a personalized email with directions to complete their selection.

May 29

Last day to make changes to room assignment

Students can adjust their room assignment until May 29.

Move in timeslots open

Once a student has selected or been assigned a bed space, they are eligible to sign up for a move in timeslot (beginning June 1).
