How to Check Out

To officially check out of your residence hall room assignment for Spring 2020, complete an "Express Checkout."

Below are typical move-out procedures and expectations.  Due to the abrupt move-out process, students are required to complete an express checkout. Rooms will be inspected once all residents have moved out, and only major damages will be charged.

Student Responsibilities

  • The student acknowledges that it is their responsibility to remove ALL personal belongings and trash according to the checkout procedures. The university is not responsible for any personal belongings left behind.

  • The room and any shared bathroom/areas must be left clean and in good condition, with all furnishings in their original places to avoid assessment of additional charges. Failure to do so may result in an unofficial checkout charge of $150.

  • The student understands that their room and shared bathroom/areas (if applicable) will be inspected for any change in condition and/or discrepancies from their original room inspection. The student may be charged IF the inspection results in a need for cleaning and/or repairs to damages.

  • The student understands by choosing Express Checkout that they are waiving their right to appeal any damage/cleaning charges that are assessed on their student account.

Step 1: Prepare Your Room

  1. Unplug and defrost your fridge. Make sure you have plenty of time to do so, and use a towel to collect any excess water that drains.

  2. Remove all trash from your room. Take large items to the designated dumpster near your hall. Do not leave trash in the building. Clean out the trash can.

  3. Remove ALL personal belongings from your room.

  4. Unbunk your beds and return the furniture to the original arrangement. Return the bunking pins to the desk, if applicable.

  5. Sweep the room. Mop the floor, if necessary. Brooms and mops are available for checkout at the front desk.

  6. Close and lock windows.

  7. Depending on what thermostat is in your room, set the thermostat to 65 degrees and the fan to auto - or - halfway in the blue section, fan on medium.

  8. Turn off the lights.

  9. Lock your door.

Step 2: Check Out

Officially check out by completing the express checkout envelope and returning it to the residence hall front desk.

Your key must be returned at the time of checkout to avoid an additional charge.
