Housing & Residence Life

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011
Wednesday, September 28th
7:00pm - 7:00am
  • Location: DUC South Lawn
  • Time: 7:00pm - 7:00am

A longtime tradition at WKU, Shantytown is an experience not to be missed. Homelessness in Bowling Green and across the nation is a constant problem. WKU students are given the opportunity to experience a night of homelessness, to gain a better understanding of what it's like to be homeless, even on a miniscule level. Participants also learn how to take positive action to become part of the solution of homelessness.

Participants have the opportunity to build shanties to sleep in that night, as well as participate in a soup kitch, listen to live local music, competing in a canned good building contest, listen to community leaders and complete services projects on location.

All student organizations and community groups are more than welcome and encouraged to join us this year.

Please join us on the DUC South Lawn on Wednesday, September 28 for a night of giving back to our local community. The night begins at 7 pm and ends at 7 am.

Shantytown is brought to you by the Residence Hall Association, Housing & Residence Life, the Alive Center, and Habitat for Humanity.
