Lily Nellans, a 2018 graduate in philosophy and self-designed international conflict studies, will use a Rotary Global Grant Scholarship to pursue a graduate degree in international relations at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Senior Erick Murrer of Nancy is the first WKU student to receive a Pickering Fellowship, which will provide $37,500 annually for a graduate degree related to the foreign service. Isabella Greene of Orlinda, Tennessee was selected as an alternate.

Dana Biechele-Speziale has been awarded an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship and will receive an annual stipend of $34,000 and a cost-of-education allowance to pursue graduate study in chemistry. Two WKU alumni were recognized as honorable mentions.

WKU alumna Claire Bellar was selected as a 2018 James Madison Fellow. She will receive $24,000 to fund graduate education to become an outstanding teacher of the American constitution.

Five WKU students received Fulbright awards for academic year 2017-18, placing WKU in a tie for fourth place among master’s institutions nationally. WKU is the only Kentucky institution to make the list, published in the Chronicle of Higher Education.
