An Introduction to Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction

4-Session Group Program

This is a shortened version of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program (MBSR) for busy college students. MBSR is an empirically-validated group program to learn and practice skills to cope with stress effectively for a wide range of health benefits.

Attendance to all 4 sessions, some reading from a textbook (Wherever You Go There You Are: Mindfulness Meditation In Everyday Life by Jon Kabat-Zinn, about 1 hour weekly), and practice of mindfulness-based skills at home (at least 10 minutes daily) are required to receive the full benefits of this program, such as reduced stress reactions, lowered blood pressure and heart rate, enhanced attention and concentration, management of anxiety, prevention of recurrent depression, and improvement of eating habits.

Session 1: Breathing exercises and body scan

Session 2: Mindful walking and meditation with gatha

Session 3: Guided imagery exercises and dealing with thoughts

Session 4: Mindful eating and dealing with feelings

You are expected to attend all 4 sessions; however, credit will be given if you have to miss one.

FREE for WKU Students & Limited to 12 participants
