Stites

Joseph N. Stites teaches the tuba/euphonium studio and music education classes. He performs as tubist with the WKU Faculty Brass Quintet and the Bowling Green Chamber Orchestra and directs the WKU Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble. A native of Hopkinsville, he holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Western Kentucky University, a Master of Science in Music Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Before taking up his current assignments he taught nine years in the public schools and eight years as Associate Director of Bands and the Director of the Big Red Marching Band at WKU.

Stites is active in the Kentucky Music Educators Association as a Festival Manager, Co-manager of the the KMEA State Marching Band Championships, and chair of the Marching Band Committee. He also adjudicates solo & ensemble festivals, marching bands, and concert bands in Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, and Indiana.

His professional and honorary memberships include Phi Beta Mu, Phi Mu Alpha, Pi Kappa Lambda, Music Educators National Conference, Kentucky Music Educators Association, and the Third District Band Directors Association.
