The WKU Department of Music along with friends and family members of Joe Stites will host a celebration of his life on Saturday, June 21, 2025, beginning at 3:00 p.m. in the Music Rehearsal Hall on WKU’s campus.

Stites passed away on March 1, 2025, and was a 1977 graduate of the WKU Department of Music and a teacher at WKU for 34 years.

The event will begin at 3:00 p.m. with a reception, followed by remarks from those who worked with and learned from Stites during his musical career. A group of Stites’ former euphonium and tuba students will close the event with a recital.

Also scheduled on Saturday at 7:30 p.m., the Southern Kentucky Concert Band will perform in the Downing Student Union Auditorium. The concert is dedicated to Stites’ memory and will feature guest conductors and music significant to him.

A scholarship fund has been established in Stites’ memory. The fund will assist music education majors at WKU, according to the College Heights Foundation website. Fund donations can be submitted here.
