WKU Summer Dance Intensive

JUNE 21-27, 2020 

SDI 2020 will feature WKU Dance Faculty and support local guest artists with workshops in various dance styles.

Coursework will include ballet, jazz, modern, tap, hip hop, world dance form, conditioning, improvisation, dance history, nutrition ... and more!


The WKU Summer Dance Intensive is designed for intermediate to advanced dancers (grades 9-12) as a unique opportunity to explore college level dance and the WKU experience. Following the mission of the WKU Dance Program, students will be challenged as "thinking artists," with a variety of classes to enhance their technical and artistic skills. Program of study will include daily ballet, jazz, and modern, dance technique classes along with coursework including pointe, tap, dance improvisation, dance history, and world dance forms. Daily discussions and events will highlight special interest topics designed to help prepare and inspire the pre-professional dancer. The week long intensive will culminate in a performance featuring university faculty and guest artist choreography.

Dancers have the option to participate in the full intensive, residing in the dorms and gaining a complete college experience. Or, dancers may choose to participate as commuters. Selected WKU dance majors will serve as RA's and accompany dancers throughout the intensive.

The application / registration process will begin in January 2020. Dancers finishing their senior year in high school or wishing to transfer may use this intensive as their placement audition into the Dance Program. Additionally, students who attend the summer dance intensive their junior and/or senior year of high school can receive a freshman scholarship within the Dance Program to attend WKU as a dance major!

No Registration Fee!

Students may choose to register for the full intensive or as a commuter.

Full intensive fee - $750 early registration / $825 after March 15thFee includes,

  • Daily classes and pre-scheduled activities
  • Meals and lodging on campus

Commuter fee - $550 early registration / $625 after March 15th. Fee includes,

  • Daily classes and pre-scheduled activities
  • Lunch and dinner on campus

***Applications for early registration (full intensive or commuter) must be received by March 15, 2020 and payment submitted by April 1, 2020.

Special teacher fee - $250. Fee includes daily classes only.Studio teachers interested in the special teacher rate should contact Amanda Clark directly at amanda.clark@wku.edu for registration information.
