International Fly Fishing Film Festival

  • Location: DSU 3020
  • Time: 6:30pm
BOWLING GREEN, Ky – The WKU Recreation Administration program, with the generous support of local co-sponsor Anderson Marine, will host the 2019 International Fly Fishing Film Festival (IF4) in Bowling Green on April 9 and in Louisville, KY on May 29.

The IF4TM features short length films produced by professional filmmakers from all corners of the globe, which showcase the passion, lifestyle and culture of fly fishing.  These films are capturing the attention of anglers all over the world. This year's IF4 trailers and online ticket sales are available at http://www.flyfilmfest.com/

“This event is a fun way to connect anglers, bid on some great silent auction items, have a chance to win a door prize, watch awesome films, and support a terrific program,” says Dr. Raymond Poff, Recreation Administration major program coordinator and faculty lead for WKU’s annual fly-fishing program in Missoula, Montana.

WKU hosts the screenings to increase community awareness of fly fishing, fly-fishing courses, workshops, trips, and promote the WKU Recreation Administration major. The proceeds from IF4 will help support the university’s fly-fishing programs.

“In addition to great films, our generous friends in the industry are stepping up to help provide cool items for auction items and door prizes. To date, Echo, Airflo, FlyFusion Magazine, Cabela’s, Temple Fork Outfitters, Syndicate Fly Fishing, Nat's Outdoor Sports, and NRS have either delivered or committed assistance for our event,” stated Poff. “We will continue to update our online list at http://bit.ly/if4-wku as items come in or are committed.”

  • The Bowling Green screening will be held April 9th in WKU’s Downing Student Union Room 3020.
  • The Louisville screening will be held March 29th at Village 8 Theatres, 4014 Dutchmans Lane, Louisville, KY.
  • For both events, doors open and silent auction begins at 6:30pm. Films begin 7:00pm.

Discount tickets: Bowling Green screening discounts tickets are $10 at Anderson Marine in Old Hickory, TN and Nat's Outdoor Sports in Bowling Green. Louisville screening discount tickets are $10 at Orvis-Louisville and Quest Fly Shop.

Online tickets are $15 + $2 fee for advance purchase at http://flyfilmfest.com. Remaining tickets (if any) will be $20 at the door.

Information about the event, door prizes, silent auction items, is available at http://bit.ly/if4-wku.

For any additional questions, please contact Dr. Raymond Poff at (270) 745-2498 or raymond.poff@wku.edu

Liz Chagnon: Frescoes, Fragments & Frontiers

  • Location: Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center, room 156
  • Time: 6:00pm

Liz Chagnon, a 2018 WKU graduate, will discuss her research in Frescoes, Fragments, & Frontiers at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center, room 156.

Chagnon, who received her bachelor’s degree in Art History with a minor in Studio Art, has been on an incredible journey studying fragments of frescoes originally created for the early 11th century Spanish church, the Hermitage of San Baudelio de Berlanga. The frescoes were removed from the church and are now on display in museums throughout the world.

Through a FUSE grant and as a Gilman Scholar, Chagnon traveled to the Hermitage of San Baudelio itself and then sought out pieces of the fresco housed in the Prado Museum in Madrid and museums in New York, Boston, Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Dallas. Her research included examining the curatorial choices that now "re-frame" these fragments. She will also talk about the interactive exhibition Re-Formed that she curated last fall for the WKU University Gallery.

Lecture is sponsored by the WKU Department of Art.
