Dr. Darbi Haynes-Lawrence and Dr. Adam R. West secured a grant from the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation (MSF) to continue research on families who have adults with Multiple Sclerosis. This $27,000 grant will expand their research across the United States, focusing on parents who have MS and their experiences of parenting with a chronic illness, the roles of children as caregivers, resources for parents with MS, and how romantic and co-parental relationships are affected.
This competitive grant from the MSF was awarded as part of a continuing body of research from Dr. Haynes-Lawrence and Dr. West centering on families with MS. Their recent work published in Contemporary Perspectives in Family Research (http://www.emeraldinsight.com/doi/abs/10.1108/S1530-35352014000008A002) indicated a need to continue exploring parenting in the context of MS, including involving children in at-home treatments and children as caregivers.
