The WKU String Academy seeks a pre-college instructor of violin to teach students ages 4 to 18 individual and group lessons. Lessons and classes are scheduled throughout the week during the Spring and Fall semesters (15 weeks each). The ideal candidate must be a strong performer with effective instructional skills, possess an ability to recruit and retain a vibrant studio of pre-college violinists, and have a willingness to develop and grow their teaching. This position includes potential summer festival teaching at the WKU String Academy.

The WKU String Academy is a preparatory program for violin and viola students housed at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY. It fosters an environment that is both nurturing and demanding, providing students with the opportunity to study a string instrument from the beginning to advanced levels. Solo recitals, group concerts, public performances, and master classes by world-renowned artists provide students with outstanding developmental opportunities. Our pedagogy is based around the principles of Shinichi Suzuki, with strong influences from Mimi Zweig and Paul Rolland.

• Teach private lessons to students ages 4 to 18

Purpose of Position

Under general supervision of the Area Supervisor of Maintenance Services, the Area Technician works in a multi-functional team made up of electricians, plumbers, and other skilled maintenance team members to provide complete maintenance to a group of buildings across campus.   A person participating in this dynamic team environment performs skilled work in the maintenance and repair of HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, electrical equipment and accessories. These duties are performed primarily on the 1st shift, may work other shifts as the need arises.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs general plumbing repair to include installing, maintaining and repairing valves, faucets, traps and other sanitary fixtures, as well as maintaining piping systems by opening clogged drains and replacing washers on leaky faucets
• Performs routine preventative maintenance to the interior of buildings such as installing/changing various lamps and ballasts in building light fixtures and laying floor tile and installing ceiling tile to ensure the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate
• Performs general carpentry work in the maintenance of buildings, roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, door locks, windows and screens
• Uses tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices to repair, replace and reassemble equipment
• Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that building systems operate efficiently such as fan coils, air handling units, unit ventilators, pumps, motors, exhaust fans and other related equipment
• Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs, as necessary.
• Assemble, install, or repair wiring, electrical or electronic components, pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, or equipment as well as locates and corrects power failures and short circuits
• Inspect drives, motors, and belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, or perform other maintenance actions, following checklists

The Assistant Director plays an integral role on the WKU Online team in two key capacities. First, the Assistant Director conducts research and data analyses of enrollment issues, trends, and models with the aim of supporting consistent enrollment growth, increased student success, and reduced equity gaps. The Western Kentucky University Psychology Department (www.wku.edu/psychology/) is seeking qualified applicants for a tenure-track position in Clinical Psychology. This position will support the Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) in Applied Psychology program.  Desired applicants should hold an earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology.    

Responsibilities for the position include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses (3 total courses per semester), conducting scholarly research and publishing, advising undergraduate and graduate students, guiding dissertation and thesis research as well as serving on dissertation and thesis committees, and possibly assisting with practicum and internship placements and supervision. Additional responsibilities include serving on program, department, college and university committees, and other duties as assigned.

In addition to the Psy.D. program, the Department of Psychology has an undergraduate major in psychology, a Master's program in clinical psychology, and a NASP-approved Specialist in Education program in school psychology. WKU's Department of Psychology is committed to initiatives pertaining to first generation students and promoting inclusive excellence overall.

Under general supervision of the Superintendent of Maintenance Services, the Carpenter works in a multi-functional team made up of other carpenters, painters, and roofers to perform skilled carpentry work in the alteration, repair and maintenance of buildings, floors, stairways, partitions, doors, door and window hardware, locks, windows, screens, scaffolding, concrete forms and placement, wood fixtures, and furniture. These duties are performed either on the 1st shift, or another alternative shift based on the needs of the University.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties are customary for this position, but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.

• Installs structures or fixtures such as windows, frames, floorings, ceilings, trim, doors or hardware to include: Glass installation, removal, and glazing,lays floor tile and carpet tile, and installs cove base, installs and repairs ceiling grid and tiles, repair and maintenance of overhead doors, as well as, installation and maintenance of a large variety of door hardware and systems, and installs framing and drywall
• Builds or repairs cabinets, bookcases, chests, etc. using power saws, joiners, wood lathes, planers and boring, sanding and mortising machines
• Performs routine preventative maintenance to the interior of buildings by inspecting ceiling or floor tile, roof systems, drywall, glass, doors, hardware, and framing, to detect broken or damaged structures to ensure the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate
• Uses tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, levels, sanders, etc.
• Cleans, sharpens and repairs hand and bench tools following established safety rules and regulations to maintain a safe and clean environment
• Record type and cost of maintenance or repair work
• Operates university vehicles and equipment

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintains excellent communication/customer service with Building Coordinators and all other DFM team members
• Performs related duties as assigned

Knowledge and Skills Essential for Success

• Mechanical & operational knowledge of all machines & tools related to the carpentry trade, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance
• Ability to study specifications in blueprints, sketches or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required
• Ability to verify trueness of structure using plumb bob and level
• Ability to provide on-the-job training/coaching to team members in your field of expertise
• Strong communication skills and time management abilities
• Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems

• Ability to remove damaged or defective parts or sections of structures and repair or replace using hand tools
• Ability to bend, crawl, reach, kneel, climb ladders & scaffolding, and able to navigate tight spaces, as well as working in hot, noisy environments, working aloft and in confined spaces
• Must be able to perform strenuous physical labor, which includes heavy lifting, carrying up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to wear protective eye wear, gloves, ear wear and foot wear during work times for one's safety as the task dictates

• High School Diploma/GED
• Three-years work experience in one of the construction trades
• Must possess and maintain a valid Kentucky driver's license
• Ability to operate WKU vehicles
