Looking for a way to expand your practice toolkit? Mindfulness is a complementary approach to daily musical practice, engaging the same mental and physical processes that we already use as musicians. It provides contemplative tools for awareness, exploration, and reflection that can be applied both in and outside of the practice room. In this discussion, we will explore how mindfulness can help you enjoy your practice sessions, deal with the stresses of musical life (including performance anxiety), and avoid burnout and injury. Suggestions for applications in the music classroom and further resources for educators will also be presented. Q&A will follow the presentation.
