In spite of recent global events concerning COVID-19, students from The Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky have continued summer learning in a variety of settings.

Ten Gatton Academy students are recipients of U.S. Department of State National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) Scholarships this year. This marks the 10th consecutive year Gatton Academy students have been recipients of this scholarship.

Gabriella Lynn, a graduating Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky student from Hopkinsville (University Heights Academy), has been admitted and fully funded to London’s prestigious Royal Veterinary College.

Two Gatton Academy juniors qualified for the Regeneron International Science & Engineering Fair. Eleven other Gatton Academy students earned awards at regional and state fairs.

First-year student from The Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky, Gloria Huang, is one of only 60 students nationwide selected for the Council on Undergraduate Research Posters on the Hill celebration.

Students from 47 counties represent the Class of 2022. The selected students scored an average composite of 30.58 on the ACT and 30.23 on the mathematics portion of the exam.

Seven Gatton Academy seniors learned recently they are candidates for the 2020 United States Presidential Scholars. They are Caitlin Cook, Bailey Knight, Logan Mingus, JB Morse, Lukas Negron, Sarah Pedersen, and Lydia Speer.

Twenty seniors from The Gatton Academy have been recognized as finalists in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Competition, marking a total of 156 students earning Finalists status since program inception in 2007.

Matthew Johnson has been named a 2020 Coca-Cola Scholar. Matthew is one of 150 students from across the nation, and one of just six in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, to earn the recognition.

Four students from The Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky will debate teams from around the nation this February as a part of an Arabic Debate Tournament.
