New Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM)
- Friday, September 11th, 2026

Dear WKU Benefits-Eligible Employees,
We're excited to announce that, starting January 1, 2027, WKU will be partnering with SmithRx as our new pharmacy benefit manager, replacing Express Scripts. This change is designed to help further control the cost of your pharmacy benefits while continuing to provide you with the coverage and support you rely on. Please review the introductory flyer and video attached.
In the coming weeks, you'll receive more detailed information about what this change means for you, including new ID cards, how to access your prescriptions, and answers to common questions. For now, we simply want to make sure you have this on your radar.
To help you become familiar with the change, we'll be hosting a series of member education sessions before fall break. Representatives from our benefits broker, Houchens Insurance Group (HIG), will be on campus to present and answer questions, so these sessions are your opportunity to get your questions answered before the new year. Here are the dates for our first week of sessions:
- Monday, September 28th
- Wednesday, September 30th
- 9:00-10:00am
- Chandler Hall, Houchens Industries Auditorium, Room 1001A
- Thursday, October 1st
- 1:30-2:30pm
- Grise Hall, Room 235
