Anthony Clauson, the editor-in-chief of the College Heights Herald, was named Thursday to The New York Times Corps, the newspaper’s talent mentorship program for undergraduate journalists nationwide. Clauson is the first student from WKU named to the group.

Clauson, a junior from Bowling Green, is one of 21 college students from across the country who will spend multiple years learning from New York Times journalists. Each student is matched with a newsroom mentor, from whom they receive regular career guidance and feedback, according to the Times Corps announcement. Students will receive virtual opportunities for training and can remain in the program until graduation.

Students who complete the program may get the opportunity to visit The New York Times in person, the release said.

Clauson will be mentored by Sapna Maheshwari, a reporter on The Times business desk.

According to the release:

“The Times Corps is designed for undergraduates who are pursuing journalism and who demonstrate that they would particularly benefit from advice from working journalists. Nearly 100 students have joined the program since it began in 2022.
