Welcome Back—and Thank You

Dear Colleagues,
Every August, we have the privilege of beginning a new academic year. You can see and feel the energy across campus as a new year gets underway. Throughout the summer, teams across the University have worked behind the scenes, coordinating and attending to the countless details that make this moment possible. Faculty have prepared their courses and are ready to challenge and inspire students in the classroom. Residence halls are buzzing with activity and excitement as students settle into campus life.
Now that the Hill is filled with thousands of students once again, I want to thank you. Whether you are teaching, conducting research, welcoming colleagues, caring for our campus or serving behind the scenes, your efforts help create the community our students call home.
Our students are the reason we do this work. Some are here for the very first time, bringing with them the dreams and hopes of families who share this milestone. Others return eager to see familiar faces and take the next step in their WKU journey. Every student arrives with hopes for the year ahead and the expectation that this is a place where they can learn, grow, and belong.
Western Kentucky University is defined by so much more than classrooms and academic programs. It is defined by the WKU experience and by the people who make that experience meaningful. Our students learn and grow through their interactions with the professor who challenges and inspires them in the classroom, the advisor who provides guidance and encouragement, the staff member who helps them navigate a challenge and the facilities team whose pride and dedication help create a welcoming campus.
From a student's first visit to the Hill through graduation and beyond, they are shaped by countless moments of connection, support, and opportunity. While these interactions may seem like ordinary parts of our daily work, together they create the distinctive WKU experience. They can make all the difference by helping our students feel supported, connected and empowered to succeed.
Thank you for the difference you make for our University and for our students. I am grateful to begin another academic year alongside each of you, and I look forward to all we will accomplish together.
