On Thursday, April 30, WKU in Glasgow proudly honored its Class of 2026 graduates during Graduand, a special pre-commencement recognition ceremony for students who have completed their degree requirements.
The evening highlighted several outstanding students, including Lauren Bowman, who received the Juanita Bayless Award; Rachel Shirley, who received the Spirit Award; and Payton Wheeler, recipient of the Scholar Award.
Dr. Derick Strode, director of WKU regional campuses, welcomed everyone and provided brief remarks. Chris Houchens of Commonwealth Broadcasting served as emcee, and Bryan Baysinger provided remarks on behalf of WKU Alumni.
A unique tradition of the Glasgow campus, each graduand received a tartan stole to wear during commencement ceremonies on the Hill. The tartans symbolize Glasgow’s Scottish heritage and distinguishes graduates from this campus. Each student selected a WKU in Glasgow faculty member or staff to present them with their tartan.
Following the ceremony, graduands received commemorative cakes and WKU Alumni grad packs. The celebration continued with photos alongside family, friends, and Big Red, who made the evening extra fun for everyone.
The event was hosted in the Community Room at the Pavilion, generously provided by T.J. Regional Health, whose support helped create an ideal setting for the occasion.
WKU Commencement exercises will take place on the WKU main campus Thursday, May 7, where the University will officially confer their degrees. Graduates will also be recognized at their College Recognition Ceremony on Friday, May 8.
WKU in Glasgow extends its sincere congratulations to the Class of 2026 and looks forward to their continued success.
