GFCB Marks Passing of Dr. Robert W. Jefferson

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Robert W. Jefferson, former dean of the Gordon Ford College of Business. He passed away on March 25, 2026, at the age of 86.

Jefferson served as dean of the Gordon Ford College of Business from 1996 to 2006. He led the effort to secure a $10 million gift, then the largest single donation in Western Kentucky University's history. In 2006, Governor Ernie Fletcher named him a "Kentucky Colonel," the state's highest civilian honor, in recognition of his service to Kentucky and higher education. He retired from WKU that year, concluding a distinguished 41-year career.

"Dr. Robert Wayne Jefferson’s leadership as dean helped shape the Gordon Ford College of Business in meaningful and lasting ways,” said Dr. Evelyn Thrasher, current dean of the Gordon Ford College of Business. “From the naming of the college to the establishment of professorships, his vision and dedication left a lasting imprint. He believed deeply in our students and in the power of relationships, and his distinguished career in higher education, coupled with his commitment to the institution, continues to shape the college’s legacy today.” 

Our deepest sympathies are with Dr. Jefferson’s family and friends during this difficult time.
