Dr. Tania Basta, the Donald R. and Irene S. Dizney Dean of the WKU College of Health and Human Services (CHHS), announced that CHHS will be restructuring effective July 1, 2026.
Planning and designing the new Academic Complex provided CHHS with an important opportunity to reimagine the future of the College and the many programs it offers.
Three academic realignments that resulted from this forward-thinking work:
- The Departments of Social Work and Public Health, along with the Child and Family Services program from the Department of Applied Human Sciences, will merge to form the School of Health and Social Services (SHSS).
- The Family and Consumer Sciences Education program will transition from a concentration within the Child and Family Services program to a concentration within the Hospitality Management and Dietetics program.
- The Interior Design and Fashion Studies major will move from CHHS to the Potter College of Arts and Letters (PCAL), where it will be housed in the Department of Art and Design.
Dean Basta said, “These strategic adjustments will create a number of opportunities, including better alignment with accreditation requirements, improved synergy across courses and programs, and increased collaboration in faculty research and creative activities. I am pleased to share that this restructuring maintains the same programs and faculty mentorship for students while expanding learning environments and enhancing program offerings.”
