Biography

Lydia Cantrell-Montalvo is an Adjunct Instructor of Voice at Western Kentucky University. A Bowling Green native, Lydia received her Undergraduate degree in Vocal Performance from Western Kentucky University. She then went on to earn her master’s degree in Vocal Performance/Pedagogy and Choral Conducting from Campbellsville University.

During her time at CU, Lydia had built an extensive résumé of musical accomplishments - some being master classes with Margareth Miguel, Dr. Brittany Benninfield, Renato Goncalves and Dr. Bernard McDonald. She was awarded the Outstanding Graduate Student Vocal Award, and won 1st place in the MT 9 category in the 2023 NATs regional competition.

A lyric soprano, Lydia has performed with all WKU Choral Ensembles, all CU Choral Ensembles, and has accumulated a large stage presence (solo and choral) throughout her musical career. Stage credits include performances in the roles of Bastien, Anna II, Despina and Amahl, as well as the Laudamus Te duet from Vivaldi’s Gloria with the WKU Choral Society. Lydia has been a part of the KMEA All-Collegiate Choir at the KMEA Conference from 2022-2025, and also performed in the Kentucky Ambassadors of Music tour with the University of Louisville in 2016 and 2018.

Lydia lives in Bowling Green with her husband Daniel. She enjoys spending time working with Parties With a Princess as a princess performer, and running her private performing arts studio, LCM Performing Arts.
