Shrinky Dinks: Project-Based Learning in a Geometry Classroom
Mrs. Rachel Vargas is a WKU 2019 Graduate with a B.A. in Mathematics, Science and Mathematics Education, and Middle Grades Mathematics. Mrs. Vargas is certified to teach mathematics for grades 5- 9 and 8-12 and has been teaching at Logan County High School since her first year teaching in 2019- 2020. She has taught Algebra 2 and Geometry and currently teaches Geometry. She incorporates art, coding, and music into her mathematics classroom.
Mrs. Vargas graduated summa cum laude with a 4.0 GPA and was recognized with the following awards during her time at WKU: Hugh F. and Katherine A. Johnson Award in Mathematics (2018), Pauline Lowman Mem. Secondary Mathematics Award (2019), Outstanding SKyTeach Graduate (2019).
Shrinky dinks are a great physical representation of reduction dilations. Come be the student in this mock-PBL night where you will create your own Shrinky Dink as a keychain, pin, or earrings!
As the mock student, you will use Google slides to make a design including dilations, explain the mathematics in your design, and create a physical shrinky dink.
