Mathematics Transfer Equivalency Request Procedure
If you would like to request a mathematics course substitution or transfer equivalency, please follow the procedures outlined below:
You would like for a course that you took elsewhere to substitute for a course that is required for your major or minor. Then please print out this Transfer Equivalency Request Form and fill out the top section and the bottom left section. Take the form to your academic advisor for approval, and then to the Chair of your own academic department.
Example 1
You are a Biology major and the Biology Department requires MATH 116 and MATH 117 for the major. You had a pre-calculus course elsewhere and the Mathematics Department has deemed that it is not equivalent to any existing WKU math course. The Biology Department may substitute that pre-calculus course for MATH 117 for you only if they so choose. They do not need approval of the Mathematics Department. Then you will have satisfied their MATH 117 requirement. However you will not have actual credit for MATH 117, and therefore you will not have the prerequisite for MATH 136 - Calculus I.
Example 2
You are a Pre-nursing major and the Nursing Department requires a statistics course. You had a statistics course elsewhere and the Mathematics Department has deemed that it is not equivalent to our MATH 183. The Nursing Department may substitute your statistics course for MATH 183 for you only if they so choose. They do not need approval of the Mathematics Department. Then you will have satisfied their statistics requirement.
You would like for the mathematics course that you took elsewhere to count as a direct equivalency to an existing WKU mathematics course. Then please print out this Transfer Equivalency Request Form and fill out the top section and the bottom right section. Return the form along with the official catalog course description to Dr. Kanita DuCloux, Department Chair. If possible, please include the instructor's syllabus for the course that you took.
All decisions on course substitutions and course equivalencies are administrative
matters and not academic advising matters. The decisions are not made by Dr. DuCloux,
and Dr. DuCloux will not provide students or faculty with any opinion or recommendation
on whether or not a substitution or equivalency will be approved. Once the matter
is decided or if it has previously been decided, then Dr. DuCloux will inform you
of the outcome.
