Instructional Fitness Programs


The Health & Fitness Lab offers a diverse group of specialized instructional courses throughout the year. If you would like to become a fitness professional, we offer workshops in group exercise and personal training to get you on your way. Periodically, we host national certification workshops such as YogaFit or Zumba. We also put on special events, competitions and fitness programs like Group Functional Training to keep you in great shape. Here is a sampling of programs we have offered in the past:

 
This group has 3 scheduled workouts a week, dedicated to improving all of the components of health fitness. Improve your total body fitness through exercises that use all of your muscles while performing movements essential to everyday life. Improve your quality of life, athletic performance, or just to blow off stress in a team environment.
When: Typically we have 2 groups MWF 6:00am OR 12:15pm
Includes:
  • Pre-Assessment of health & physical condition
  • Leadership and workouts from a certified fitness professional
  • Nutrition coaching from a Registered Dietitian
  • Group accountability
Cost: Depends on length of program, typically $3-4 per meeting
 
This workshop is an 8-week program which meets 2 hours a week and is designed to prepare you to for the ACE Group Fitness Instructor certification exam. If you enjoy exercise and teaching others how to become fit, you could start being paid for it!
Includes:
  • Guidance from experienced instructors
  • Blended classroom instruction & practical skills
  • Discounted text and exam voucher
Cost: $40 plus cost of exam & textbook
 
This workshop is an 8-week program which meets 1-2 hours a week and is designed to prepare you to for the ACE personal trainer certification exam. If you enjoy exercise and teaching others how to become fit, you could start being paid for it!
Includes:
  • Guidance from experienced personal trainers
  • Blended classroom instruction & practical skills
  • Discounted text and exam voucher
Cost: $30 plus cost of exam & textbook
 
This martial art style uses your body position, skill and technique in order to fight off potentially larger and stronger opponents. This 8 week class gives you physical training, skill training, and practice to improve your health and personal safety.
Includes:
  • Small group training from an experienced instructor
  • New techniques weekly
  • Practice time to master new skills
Cost: $40

 

"Krav Maga is easily learned and implemented quickly. This system is accessible to anyone interested in learning self-defense techniques in aim to protect themselves and their surroundings. Krav Maga was created  for military purposes, meant to improve combat abilities of Israeli IDF soldiers in the early 50's. Over the years, the Krav Maga system was further developed to provide self-defense solutions for the civilian sector as well."

  • New techniques weekly
  • Practice time to master new skills

Cost: $40

Compete against others to push the highest relative bench press on campus. the max weight competitors lift will be divided by their body weight to determine the percent of body weight lifted for a single rep. The male and female winners will receive plaque and have their names on the perpetual plaque in the fitness center. All participants will be entered into a raffle so even if you don't win, it's still worth competing.
