FAQ's

What paperwork should I bring with me on the first day of camp?

Parents must supply an updated immunization record and list of individuals authorized to pick up campers each day.

How do I add authorized pick-up people after I have submitted my child’s form?

You can add additional people to your child’s list by calling our office at (270)745-6060.

How can I pay my balance for Camp Big Red and when is it due?

Payments for each week are due on the Wednesday of the week prior to camp. Parents may come to the office at the Preston Center to make cash, check or card payments at any time, or can call (270)745-6060 to make card payments over the phone.

What should my child wear to camp each day?

We recommend that all campers wear comfortable clothing such as a t-shirt, shorts, or any type of

athletic wear. Campers must wear tennis shoes (NO sandals or flip flops). Campers should also bring a

swimsuit and towel every Monday through Thursday for swim time.

What should I do if my child has food allergies?

We do our best to make any necessary accommodations for campers with allergies. Fresh Foods in the Downing Student Union (DSU) provides students with a variety of healthy, allergy-friendly options. However, parents are always welcome to provide their child with lunch and snacks from home. Additionally, if your child has an epi-pen, you can check that in with our camp staff, who can keep it in case of emergencies.

Who do I call in case of an emergency?
In the case that you need to quickly relay information to camp staff or contact your child, you can call our office at (270)745-6060. Our staff will quickly and professionally relay any information or connect you with the appropriate contacts (i.e., camp counselors, the camp director, your child, etc.).

My camper is involved in a different WKU camp while they are participating in Camp Big Red. What should I do?

In most cases, other camps last only part of the day. Parents may drop their children off later in the day or come and pick them up early, but we ask that they call in advance so we can prepare our staff for these changes.

My daughter is only five years old however; I would like to sign her up for this summer’s camp. Can I

do this?

Campers must be between the ages of 6-12 to attend any of the camp sessions. (Sorry, no exceptions).

Will my child have adequate supervision throughout the day? What certifications do the staff

members have?

Safety is our # 1 priority. Our campers get the care they deserve with our 8-to-1 camper-to-staff-ratio.

The CBR staff is a dedicated team certified in Adult/Child CPR, AED, and Standard First Aid.

I paid the $50.00 deposit for my child to attend session 1. If I decide that I don't want that session, can

I apply this deposit to a different session?

No. All deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable.

How can I find out what I still owe?

We handle payments on an individual or family basis. For specific account information, please call our office staff at (270)745-6060.

Can I pick up my child early from camp?

Yes however, the CBR staff cannot escort individual campers from scheduled events to meet those

picking them up. Parents must make prior arrangements to pick up their child at the scheduled location.

Where do the campers eat lunch?

Campers will eat at "Fresh Foods" located inside the Downing Student Union (DSU) Monday-Thursday.

Fresh Foods provides a wide variety of healthy food options, which are prepared fresh for each

individual. Campers will eat at the Preston Center on Fridays.

Is it okay if my child brings personal items such as a cell phone, playing cards, books, etc.?

We ask that campers do NOT bring any valuable or personal items with them to camp. CBR provides

numerous activities to keep each camper engaged throughout each day.

Are campers separated into groups based on their age?

While some activities may require campers to be put into their age group, many of our activities allow

campers to participate together.

My child had a blast at camp but we only registered for one week. Can we sign up for more sessions later in the summer?

Camp Big Read fills to capacity every summer, so we will not be able to add you directly into more sessions of camp. However, we are always happy to add you to our waitlist, and will call you on the Friday before that camp is scheduled to begin to let you know if you have been added to the session.

How can I be added to a waitlist? What are my chances of being added to camp?

You can be added by calling our office at (270)745-6060. Please be prepared to provide parent phone numbers and email addresses, allergies, school district and other pertinent information and our office staff will be happy to assist you in this. During a typical week at camp, we have very few cancellations. However, it’s always a good idea to join a waitlist just in case.

Is Camp Big Red fun?

Absolutely! Whether it's arts & crafts, swimming, field trips, or special events, Camp Big Red offers a

wide variety of activities that can be enjoyed by everyone.

My question wasn’t answered on this list. What do I do now?
Feel free to call the IMRec Sports Office in the Preston Center at (270)745-6060. We are always happy to address any questions or concerns.
