Developing strong writing skills will help you succeed in history classes, make you a better student, and serve you well in your professional life after college. The History Department wants you to become a better writer. Here are some things you can do to improve your writing:

  • Talk to your history instructor about how to improve your writing.
  • Visit the History Department's Student Success Center, on the second floor of Cherry Hall next to the department office. History tutors can help you develop your essays ideas and express them effectively.
  • Have a look at the History Department's rules, tips, and common errors to avoid advice and tip sheet.
  • Refer to the History Department's stylesheet for citations as you work on footnoting in your history essays.
