GroupX Instructor Training


We are so excited you are interested in becoming a GroupX Instructor! Please read the following information thoroughly. After understanding the commitment of this training and still interested, please fill out the application found HERE.The application will close on September 3rd and interviews will take place the week of September 6th. 

 

 

Who are we looking for?  

  • Students who are eager to learn and passionate about fitness. 

  • No prior instructor experience necessary - we'll teach you everything you need to know! 

  • All majors welcome.  

  • Students graduating Winter 2022 or after 

 

What does the training include?  

  • This in-house training program will be based on the American Council on Exercise Group Fitness Instructor Certification.

  • The cost of the training is $15.  

  • Topics include anatomy, form and alignment, cueing, class planning, instructor specific skills, etc.  

  • Training will include lectures, activities to practice your skills, and teach backs. Some weeks will include homework and participation in current GroupX classes.  

 

How big of a time commitment is the training?   

  • The entire training will take place over 10 weeks. 

  • The first 8-weeks will consist of in-person training starting the week of September 13th through November 7th (Week of October 11th off for Fall Break).

  • As a trainee, you are required to commit 4-6 hrs. per week to training.  

  • Training dates:  

    • Sunday, September 19th: 10am-1pm 

    • Sunday, October 3rd: 10am-1pm 

    • Sunday, October 24th: 10am-1pm 

    • Sunday, November 7th: 10am-1pm 

    • Weekly 90-minute meetings (7 total). The days/times of these meetings will be chosen based off your availability.  

  • The final 2 weeks will include shadowing and team teaching with current GroupX instructors (about 1.5 hours per week).  

 

What happens after you complete the training?  

  • After successful completion of the training, you will be invited to audition to be a part of our team and begin teaching with GroupX during the Spring 2022 semester.  

  • This training does not give you a national certification. You will be required to obtain a national certification within 6 months of completing the training.  

  • This training will cover most ACE Group Fitness Instructor material. It is strongly recommended that you review ACE material before taking the exam as we will not cover everything due to some material not being relevant to Group Fitness in Campus Recreation.
