Research Security

Research Security entails the policies, practices, and measures that are designed to safeguard United States Research and Development from theft, misuse, undue foreign influences, and other forms of exploitation. At Western Kentucky University, Research Security supports collaborative research environment while protecting people, data, technologies, and innovations that drive discovery.

The WKU Office of Research Integrity is committed to fostering a culture of openness, transparency, and compliance while ensuring that research activities are conducted securely and responsibly. Through education, guidance, and institutional safeguards, WKU helps researchers navigate evolving security requirement without hindering scientific collaboration and innovation.

Research Security helps protect the integrity and impact of research by minimizing risks associated with unauthorized access, theft, loss or exploitation of research data, intellectual property, and other research assets. Effective research security practices allow researchers to pursue meaningful collaborations, develop innovative technologies, and advance knowledge while maintaining compliance with federal regulations and sponsor requirements.

As research becomes increasingly more global and interconnected, researchers must be aware of potential vulnerabilities and take appropriate steps to safeguard their work and the work of federally funded projects.
