How to Add CITI Trainings

  1. Login to CITI 
  2. Click "View Courses"
  3. Scroll to the bottom of your courses and locate the Learner Tools 
  4. Click "Add Course"
  5. This will bring you to a list of questions. Click on the required trainings needed below to see how to answer the questions based on the trainings you wish to add.

Please note that you can answer multiple questions and add multiple courses at a time depending on your needs!

This course is sometimes referred to as "RCR" and there are three types available depending on the research you are conducting.

1. Answer Question 1

2. Click "I want to complete or I am required to complete a course in the Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR)."

3. Choose the RCR course you need to take depending on the research you are conducting: Social and Behavioral, Humanities, or Physical Science.

This course is referred to as "Human Subjects Course"

1. Answer Question 1

2. Click "I conduct research with live human beings, human tissue samples or with archival patient data from human beings."

3. If this if your first time taking this course: click "NO, I have NOT completed the Basic Course in the Protection of Human Research Subjects in the past. This is the first time using the CITI Program at this institution. I need to complete the Basic Course." 

4. If you have taken this course before and it is expired: you will need to take the refresher course for human subjects, please click "Yes. I have completed the CITI Basic Course previously. It is time for me to complete the Refresher Course."

5. Click "Social & Behavioral Research Investigators: Choose this group to satisfy CITI training requirements for Investigators and staff involved primarily in Social and Behavioral research with human subjects. Choose either Biomedical or Social to Meet IRB Requirements."

This is required for any PIs, Co-PIs, and key personnel on federally funded sponsored research.

2. Check "I want to complete or I am required to complete a Research Security training course."

3. For federal research requirements for Conflict of Interests WKU disclosures please click "Research Security Training (Combined Course)."

This is required for all PIs, Co-PIs and key personnel on a Public Health Services (PHS) funded project (NIH, FDA, CDC, SAMHSA)

1. Answer Question 1

2. Click "I want to complete or I am required to complete a course on Conflicts of Interest."

These courses are dependent upon the animal research you are conducting or determined by IACUC with you application.

1. Answer Question 1

2. Click “I conduct research or teaching activities that utilizes live animal subjects or tissues derived from live animal subjects”

3. Click “No, not at this time.” When asked if you are a member of the Western Kentucky University Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee if you are not a committee member

4. Answer whether you are conducting Survival Surgeries on animals (This is for any non-survival surgery in non-rodent animals)

5. Choose the Animal species you are conducting research on from the following list. This should be most closely related to the animal species you are conducting research on- even if it is not exact. 

  1. Amphibians
  2. Mice
  3. Rats
  4. Hamsters
  5. Gerbils
  6. Guinea Pigs
  7. Rabbits
  8. Cats
  9. Dogs
  10. Zebrafish
  11. Swine
  12. Non-human primates
  13. Wildlife Research
  1.  

This is required for all investigators conducting biological or animal research.

2. Click “I want to complete or I am required to complete a course on biosafety and/or Biosecurity”

3. If you are taking this as a basic requirement for IBC, please click on at least “Basic biosafety Training”

4. If you are taking this as a basic requirement for IACUC please click on at least “Animal Biosafety”

5. You may be required to choose more courses based on your specific research. This will be dictated by The Office of Research Integrity, IACUC, IBC, or the Principal Investigator. Below is a list of available courses within this:

    1. Introduction to Biosafety
    2. Basic Biosafety Training
    3. Biosafety Retraining
    4. Animal biosafety
    5. Shipping and Transport of Regulated Biological Materials
    6. OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens
    7. Select Agents, Biosecurity and Bioterrorism
    8. Emergency and Incident Response to Biohazard Spills and Releases
    9. Human Gene Transfer Trials
    10. NIH Recombinant DNA (rDNA) Guidelines
    11. OSHA Personal Protective Equipment Training
    12. Institutional Biosafety Committee Member
    13. Biosafety Complete Training
