Required Trainings
This page outlines trainings that are required for each type of research here at WKU. These trainings apply to all those individuals who are involved in research and should be maintained by the Principal Investigator. Please choose the type of research you are conducting and see the required trainings below.
Please note that The Principal Investigator or The Office of Research Integrity may require additional trainings as needed.
All research required Responsible Conduct of Research. Within CITI there are currently three different versions of this: Social and Behavioral, Humanities, and Physical Sciences. Please take the version most closely related to your research.
Expiration: This course does not expire.

2. Social/Behavioral Research (often called human subjects course)
- Expiration: This course expires every three years.
1. Responsible Conduct of Research
2. Research Security Training (Combined)
- Expiration: This course expires every year.
This includes NIH, FDA, CDC, and SAMHSA funding.

2. Conflict of Interest Training
- Expiration: This course expires every four years.

3. Animal Bio-saftey
- This course expires every year
2. Species-specific training based on your research and determinations made by IACUC.
- Expiration: All of these expire every three years.

2. Bio-saftey Basic Training (Called Training for Investigators, Staff and Students Handling Bio-hazards)
- Expiration: This course expires every year.
3. Additional CITI trainings determined by the IBC or Principal Investigator based on research being conducted.
- Expiration depends on courses required, please make sure to check expiration dates on your certificate upon completion.
