WKU Varsity Esports qualifies for NACE Grand Finals, launches campaign to support travel

WKU Varsity Esports is headed to the national stage.
For the first time in program history, the WKU Varsity Esports League of Legends team has qualified for the NACE Grand Finals in League of Legends, taking place April 23–24 in Orlando, Florida.
This milestone comes on the heels of an impressive season, culminating in a Union 10 Championship victory that secured their place in the national tournament playoffs. The team went on to win their playoff rounds which established their qualification to the Grand Finals.
Led by player and coach Trey Muller of Middletown, the team includes six dedicated student competitors who have worked all season to earn this opportunity:

“This is an exciting moment for our program and our players,” said Dr. Patricia Todd, Professor in the Gordon Ford College of Business and WKU Esports faculty adviser. “They’ve put in the work all season, and now they have the opportunity to represent WKU on a national stage.”
As the team prepares for competition, they are also navigating one of the busiest times of the academic year, balancing travel with final exams and end-of-semester projects.
To support the team’s journey, WKU Varsity Esports in partnership with the WKU Division of Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement have launched a SpiritFunder crowdfunding campaign to help cover travel expenses. Contributions will primarily support airfare, allowing the team to travel efficiently and remain focused on both academic success and competition.

WKU Varsity Esports continues to grow as a program, providing students with opportunities to compete, collaborate and develop skills in one of the fastest-growing competition areas in higher education. This season, the program moved into its new home in the Tim and Sarah Ford Fieldhouse, providing state of the art training and competition space for the program.
