Title: Mathematical Optimization of a Particular Pairwise Interaction
Abstract: In this talk, the mathematical formulation of a pairwise interaction problem will be introduced and its significance in various fields, including physics and biology, will be highlighted. Variational calculus will then be employed to derive equilibrium solutions for the defined energy functional, with insights into their stability and structural properties offered. The challenges associated with solving such problems, particularly in non-convex settings where finding global minima is computationally demanding, will also be discussed. To address these challenges, the convex relaxation method will be explored, which reformulates the original non-convex problem into a more tractable convex form, enabling the efficient application of optimization techniques. Finally, the results will be presented, and their implications will be discussed.
