The Kentucky Museum is hiring students to work Summer 2026, or Fall 2026
*These student docent positions are available to enrolled WKU students only. If one is not a current WKU student, or an enrolled incoming freshman WKU student with a fall 2026 class schedule, cannot be considered for these positions.
Docent - A knowledgeable guide who assists visitors at a museum.
Summer 2026
The Kentucky Museum is seeking WKU student docents for the summer starting the week of May 13- August 22, 2026
- The Kentucky Museum is open Wednesday-Saturday 9 AM - 4 PM.
- $10 an hour. Total hours per week vary based on number of docents.
- Specifically, we are looking for students with availability to work Wednesdays- Friday 9AM-4PM and rotating Saturdays 9AM-4PM with a 30 minute unpaid lunch. Also, students work occasional evening events, such as exhibit openings, special programs, etc.

Depending on whether student docents are taking summer classes or have other regular commitments, docent hours are generally 9AM-4PM three out of four days a week. It all depends on any limitations of those we hire. Please specify your availability when applying.The position requires students to memorize scripts, interact with guests, help with tours, provide gallery security, and more. Applicants should be an outstanding student, have good communication skills, and ability to work with people.

Fall 2026
The Kentucky Museum is seeking student docents for Fall Semester 2026 starting August 26 to December 12, 2026. It is possible to start as early as August 19 if those we hire are in town. We have several positions available. The total number we hire depends on the number of returning student docents and their class schedules and the schedules of all newly-hired student docents.
- The Kentucky Museum is open Wednesday-Saturday 9AM - 4PM.
- $10 an hour. Total hours per week vary based on number of docents.
- Specifically, we are looking for students that have availability to work Wednesday, Thursdays, and Fridays, between the hours of 9AM-4PM. If working all day, student docents receive a 30-minute unpaid lunch. All student docents work rotating Saturdays 9AM-4PM with a 30-minute unpaid lunch. Also, students work occasional evening events, such as exhibit openings, special programs, etc.
- The position requires students to memorize scripts, interact with guests, help with tours, provide gallery security, and more.
- Applicants should be an outstanding student, have good communication skills, and ability to work with a variety of visitors.
- All students work alternating Saturdays 9AM-4PM with a 30-minute unpaid lunch.
- Note: Full days of any of the days Wednesday-Friday would also work with a 30-minute unpaid lunch, it is just rare that we to find students with all day availability.
