Pause in Collecting

The Kentucky Museum has paused collecting artifacts while we conduct a full inventory of our collection. In the Fall of 2025, the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) awarded the Kentucky Museum a grant to inventory the bulk of our collection. This project runs through the summer of 2027. Over almost 100 years of collecting, the Museum has used multiple systems for cataloging and organizing the collection. With the advent of digital museum database software, we have gradually created digital records of our artifacts. However, due to the size of our collection, we have yet to make a systematic inventory of the entire collection. To avoid accepting duplicate artifacts we may already have, we have decided to pause collecting until we have a thorough inventory of our collection, allowing us to better serve the South Central Kentucky community.

We will continue considering offers of fine and folk arts (well-cataloged areas of our collection) on a case-by-case basis.
