How to apply to present at the HURC

Submit your paper abstracts to https://wku.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_aV30aCSZJGuwlmu on or before April 4; selected presenters will be notified by email on or before April 8.

Submitted abstracts should not exceed 300 words. Abstracts should include:

  • Your name
  • The title of your presentation
  • The name of the professor in whose class / or under whose direction you wrote the paper
  • A brief description of the contents of your presentation, including:
    • The historical question, problem, or issue addressed
    • Some limited context for a reader not familiar with your topic (who/what/when/where)
    • The evidence (what source material the research is based on)
    • The thesis or argument (what the paper will demonstrate)

For further guidance, consider the tips given by the History Department at NC State University.

Presentations

Additional instructions will be distributed to presenters whose abstracts are selected, but you should expect presentations to be approximately ten minutes long. If typed out, this is about five double-spaced pages of text, depending on how quickly you speak. Presentations will not go longer than twelve minutes. All presentations should have at least some visual aids or images to aid listeners’ comprehension.
