CIT Career Paths

Career Paths and Outlook

Information technology (IT) is an integral part of modern life and business. And, careers in the information technology field frequently exceed median pay and future job outlook growth. The Computer Information Technology program at WKU can help you prepare for many of these exciting careers, including:

  • Computer Network Architect
  • Computer Programmer
  • Computer Support Specialist
  • Computer Systems Analyst
  • Database Administrator
  • Information Security Analyst
  • Network and Computer Systems Administrator
  • Software Developer
  • Web Developer

Even more exciting is the fact that the 2016 median salaries for computer information technology jobs ranged from $52,160 to $102,280 per year, while the median family income for the same period was only $59,039!

This fact was reinforced by a recent government study, reported by NBC Nightly News (7/8/2014, story 8, 0:35, Williams), which stated that reported numbers from the Federal government show that “where earning potential is concerned, what you study in college is worth way more than where you go to college.” The government examined data from the class of 2008 and found that those “who went to state schools earned about the same as those who went to private colleges, about $50,000 a year.” The real differences could be seen in choice of major, as those “who studied science, math, technology, or engineering tend to be making $15,000 more per year.”
