[Section_Value3] =>
     Math always excited Dr. Mark Cambron. Studying in college, he was introduced to engineering as an alternative major and career choice. The courses he enjoyed most were those presented as a puzzle, something to be figured out. While pursuing graduate studies, he had both research and teaching opportunities, including the occasion to autonomously teach courses, and work as a lab manager for Robotics section of a Computer Vision project. Staying in an academic setting, Cambron immediately engages his students in problem-solving scenarios. For his active interactions, he has been presented university awards for excellence in teaching and advising.

    [Section_Field3] => Biography
    [Section_Value3] =>
      Dr. Walter Collett was informally introduced to engineering by his uncle through interests in science, science fiction and space exploration. Fascinated with space shuttle launches during the 1980s, he found that many astronauts’ professions were in electrical engineering. Developing interests outside of the space program provided him a myriad of possibilities. While attending Tennessee Technological University, Collett always enjoyed teaching. Staying in academia he strongly encourages explanation as a demonstration of understanding. While providing academically-challenging situations for his students he is supportive and approachable. In addition he pursues his research interests in meta-materials and energy related technologies.

Some of the courses he teaches include: structural analysis, design of reinforced concrete structures, steel design, and senior project. His current research includes developing a new testing set-up and apparatus for rapid determination of compressive strength of masonry block and developing a type of engineered cementitious composite with greater ductility than normal concrete. Dr. Palmquist is also investigating how modal properties affect a structure's stiffness and flexibility. Dr. Palmquist has received a collaborative funded grant to investigate how to improve bridge structures for extreme fire related events.
