- Author: Monday, February 17th, 2020
Dr. Selena Doss has been awarded a long-term fellowship at the Lapidus Center for the Historical Analysis of Transatlantic Slavery. She will continue work on her manuscript, Involuntary Pilgrimage: Black Southerners and Territorial Separatism, 1783-1904. Her manuscript documents black southerners, who advocated degrees of territorial separatism and a nascent nationalist ideology as a means to resist racial subjugation, achieve economic independence and with it political autonomy.
Dr. Doss will be in residence for six months in spring 2020 at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, part of the New York Public Library, and will have access to collections from both institutions in order to pursue her research on transatlantic slavery.
