Fall 2023 Paid America 250 Internship Overview

An undergraduate student will work with Dr. Christy Spurlock, Education Curator, to provide support for a series of America 250 programs and a series of Museum Mondays videos.

The internship pays $15 an hour and is suited for a student majoring in film, broadcasting, marketing, education, educational media or a related field.

Work Plan

The internship will focus on upcoming America 250 programing and video production of Museum Mondays at the Kentucky Museum.

This work may include:

• Assist with the scheduling, preparing for, and marketing of all programs.
• Assist with setup and take down of events.
• Coordinating and running livestreaming.
• Preparing livestream recordings and uploading to YouTube.
• Opportunity to develop digital resources related to the project, especially gathering resources and publishing to the website those that would benefit WKU faculty and students.
• Other assistance to Dr. Spurlock and the America 250 Advisory Group as needed on this project.
• Research, write, video record and edit a series of Museum Monday videos.
• Post Museum Monday videos on both YouTube and the Museum’s socials.

Expectations

The fall internship is up to 100 hours, 8/21/23- 12/8/23, paid at a rate of $15 per hour. The intern will at the Museum 6 to 8 hours per week during the fall semester, under the supervision of Dr. Spurlock. Work will be conducted during the university work week of Monday to Friday 8AM-4PM and the intern will need schedule availability to be able be at the Museum for 6 to 8 hours per week during that time frame. Additionally, three of the America 250 programs will take place from 5 to 6 PM on either Tuesdays or Wednesdays during the Fall term and the intern needs to be present for those programs. Intern will submit work hours through TopNet and work closely with Dr. Spurlock on project tracking, checklist completion, etc.  on a weekly basis.
