The flags flying outside of the Honors College and International Center showcase the variety of countries representing the international student population on WKU's campus.
Flags displayed are selected based on top 20 countries by student population. The International Student Office will update the flags at the beginning of each semester based on the population numbers.
During commencement, WKU honors international students by giving them the opportunity to carry their country's flag during the applicable commencement ceremony. F-1 and J-1 Students are selected by country and the highest GPA. Selected students will be emailed in advance with information and instructions for participating in the commencement parade of flags.
Exceptions can be made for students holding a residence card or passport from another country, outside the U.S., provided there is flag availability and no scheduling conflicts. However, priority will be given to F-1 or J-1 visa holders. If you are not an F-1 or J-1 visa holder and would like to request carrying your country's flag, please email email@example.com. You must contact ISO at least one month prior to the commencement ceremony to be considered.
In the fall of 2016, the Council of International Student Organizations partnered with the International Student Office to initiate the tradition of the Homecoming Parade of Flags. From then on, every fall, international students are invited to march in the WKU Homecoming Parade displaying the flag of their country. International student organizations and individuals can sign up to participate. The International Student Office will notify all international students via e-mail to instruct students on how to sign up. If you have any questions you may contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
