Hossein, International Student Diplomat

Hossein Faridouni comes from Shiraz, Iran. He began his time at WKU in fall 2016 and he is pursuing mechanical engineering degree. Hossein speaks English, Farsi, Arabic, and Urdu fluently. He also speaks some Spanish and Hindi. He previously attended an Arabic school despite having no Arabic language background. “Farsi was my mother language,” Hossein said. “So learning a new language was a challenge for me. My school was diverse, but people were mostly from the Arabic countries. I was surprised by the massive number of accents that people used to speak. So, I started trying to talk to every person in his own accent. This gave me the ability to apply the dialogs perfectly and—most importantly—improve my cultural knowledge about those countries.” Hossein has lived in Iran, United Arab Emirates, and China. He says exploring countries was a great experience for learning languages and becoming well-versed in different cultures.

Hossein is a founding father of Beta Gamma Omega Multicultural Fraternity. He enjoys auto/motorcycle modification, graphic work, and photography. His plans after graduation include working for international mechanical equipment trading companies. “I believe being an International Student Diplomat will help me become more responsible, boost my academic performance, and improve my communication skills,” Hossein said.
