Getting in the building

All users must have an ID

All members must have an ID to enter the building. Only current WKU F/S & Students may use their WKU 800#'s. All others will be assigned a Preston Only 500#, and must purchase a $10 Preston Only ID card. There is a $20 replacement fee for all lost or stolen IDs.

 

Parking

Where should you park?

Preston Center members who are not enrolled as students, and who are not employed by the university are eligible to purchase a Preston Center Parking Permit at $10 per semester (Fall, Spring, and Summer). The parking permits must be purchased at WKU Parking and Transportation. For further details, please contact Parking and Transportation at (270)745-2361.

Payroll Deduction Option

Full-time F/S have the option to deduct their membership fee from their paychecks. To begin your payroll deduction, please fill out the either the single or family membership application and bring it to the IMREC SPORTS Office located on the 2nd Floor of Preston, Room 54h. You can start and stop your Payroll Deduction membership at anytime (subject to the payroll schedule). Membership rates are dependant upon salary levels and per Kentucky legislation, effective July 1, 2018, a 6% sales tax is required on all membership fees : 

Salary levels:

* <$17,499: $111.00 yearly (biweekly: $4.27, semi-monthly: $4.63, monthly: $9.25) plus tax

* $17,500-$44,999: $189 yearly (biweekly: $7.27, semi-monthly: $7.88, monthly:15.75) plus tax

* >$45,000: $252.00 yearly (biweekly: $9.69, semi-monthly: $10.50, monthly: $21.00) plus tax

Lump Sum Option

Full-time F/S also have the option to pay for their membership in a lump sum payment. To begin your membership, visit the IMREC SPORTS Office located on the 2nd Floor of Preston, Room 54 to complete an application and pay. Lump Sum memberships are non-refundable. Membership rates are dependant upon salary levels and per Kentucky legislation, effective July 1, 2018, a 6% sales tax is required on all membership fees:

Salary levels:

* <$17,499: $111.00 yearly plus tax

* $17,500-$44,999: $189 yearly plus tax

* >$45,000: $252.00 yearly plus tax

Full Time Faculty/Staff Spouse and Children Option

* The fee for a spouse will be the same as that paid by the faculty/staff member.

* Spouse/children memberships are available without the Faculty/Staff having a membership, permitting the child is 14 or older.

* An adult member must accompany children under 14 in the facility at all times.

* Dependent children and grandchildren (18 years and under) will be $50.00 per child per year.

* Children/Grandchildren over 18 will fall under the Buddy category.

* All members who are not active F/S or students will need to purchase a Preston Only ID for $10 for access to the facility.

Please Note

Full-time "temporary" employees are not eligible for payroll deduction.

Employment status overrides all other status categories.

Part-Time F/S Membership Options

Part-time Faculty/Staff memberships are $70 per semester (Fall, Spring and Summer) or $175 annually. This fee must be paid in full at the time of application. (No pro-rating is available)

Part-Time Spouse & Children Memberships

Spouse memberships are available at $70 per semester or $175 annually. This fee must be paid in full at the time of application. (No pro-rating is available).

Dependent children/grandchildren (18 and under) are eligible for membership for $50 annually or $25 per semester. Children/Grandchildren over the age of 18 will be eligible for the buddy membership category.

Retiree Membership Options

The Retired Faculty/Staff membership fee is $125.00 per year or $50 per semester. Spouse memberships are available for the same rate, provided the spouse is not a WKU employee. Membership for children/grandchildren (18 and under) are available for $50 annually or $25 per semester, per child.

Membership application as well as payment (by check, cash, or credit card) can be made at the Intramural-Recreational Sports Office located at 54a Preston Center.

*Retirees who are enrolled in class will not have the option of paying the student rate.

**Optional retirees are eligible for the Retiree membership category, however, they are not eligible for payroll deduction (lump sum payment only) and they can no longer use their WKU ID to enter the facility.  Optional Retirees will be assigned a Preston Only Number and ID (a one time $10 charge).

FAQ's about Preston Center Memberships

Question: Should I choose to take out a membership, am I locked into a year contract?

Answer: If you chose payroll deduction, the answer is “NO”. You can stop and start at anytime. If you pay lump sum, the answer is “YES”. The Preston Center does not prorate or refund membership fees.

NOTE: Only full-time benefit employees are eligible for payroll deduction.

Question: I do not want to join, but my spouse/children do. Will I have to take a membership out in order for them to join?

Answer: No. We have “family only” memberships. If you are having payroll deduction, please indicate “family only” on the application.

Question: Where can my spouse/child park when they use the Preston Center?

Answer: Effective 8-15-2009 Preston Center members not employed by the University or a current student can purchase a “Preston Only” parking permit for $10 a semester. This permit must be purchased at Parking and Transportation. Preston Center permits are valid in the following locations for the designated time of day and time limit:

Jones Jaggers, Service Supply, Russellville Road

7:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Maximum 2 hour time limit

Parking Meters located on Regents Drive or in front of Diddle Arena

6:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Maximum 2 hour time limit

Mimosa or Gated Regents

4:30 PM – 10:00 PM

Maximum 2 hour time limit

Question: Are there lockers available?

Answer: Currently, there are both full and Z-style lockers available in the Women’s Faculty/Staff locker room. There are Z-style lockers available in the Men’s Faculty/Staff locker room with a waiting list for the full-size lockers. We also has several complimentary “day use” lockers throughout the facility.

Question: What are your hours of operation?

Answer: You can check our website www.wku.edu/IMRec for daily hours of operation and events.

Question: My son/daughter is 20 but still lives at home; can I include him/her on my payroll deduction?

Answer: Yes, but it would be for a “Buddy Rate” based on your pay period.

Question: My child will be starting WKU in the Spring/Fall, will he/she automatically be dropped from my payroll?

Answer: No. Our system does not indicate when members’ children become full-time students. It is the responsibility of the member to inform us in writing to make changes to their payroll deduction.

Question: Do you have to pay extra to use the pool or go to the Group Fitness classes?

Answer: No. The only extra fees that members pay are for specialty services such as racquet rentals; massages; personal training; instructional programs, etc….

Question: Can my partner/fiancé be included in my payroll deduction?

Answer: Yes – he/she would pay the same amount as you.

Question: I am a student/spouse of a police officer/alumni/etc… as well an employee; can’t I just take out that category of membership?

Answer: No, employment status overrides all other categories you may fall into.

Question: How do I gain access into the facility?

Question: I am a recent graduate and still have my old ID with my 800# on it; can I use that to gain access to the facility?

Answer: No. Only current students and faculty/staff members my use ID’s with 800#’s. If you are not a current student or faculty/staff member, the Intramural-Recreational Sports office will assign you a “Preston Only” member ID #. That number will start with 500.

Question: Can I bring a guest with me?

Answer: Yes, Guest Passes can be purchased for $5 per visit. You will be responsible for your guest throughout the visit.

Question: What if I don’t want to take out a membership, but would like to work out occasionally?

Answer: Current faculty/staff /part-time students can purchase a pass for $5 per visit with their WKU ID.

Question: My son is twelve; can he work out in the Fitness Center or use the Fitness Equipment in the Mezzanine?

Answer: No, the age limit for the Fitness Center/Fitness Equipment in the Mezzanine is fourteen.

Question: My eleven year old daughter would like to hire a personal trainer; can she do that through the Health & Fitness lab?

Answer: No, the age limit for Health & Fitness lab services is fourteen.

Question: What are the “peak” student times?

Answer: During the Fall and Spring Semester, the peak “student” times are generally from 3:30 PM to 8:30 PM, Monday – Thursday.
