Four WKU students have been awarded U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarships. The program fully funds 8-week intensive language study and cultural immersion abroad in areas critical to U.S. national security and economic competitiveness.

Seven WKU students and recent graduates have been recognized as Semi-Finalists in the 2026-2027 Fulbright U.S. Student Program competition. Fulbright U.S. Student grants fund a year of study, research, or English teaching for recent graduates.

WKU has been recognized as an all-time Top Producing Institution in the Gilman Scholarship Program. In the 25-year history of the program, WKU is a national leader among Medium Colleges and Universities.

WKU junior Caden Lucas has been named a Finalist for the 2026 Truman Scholarship, the nation’s preeminent award recognizing future leaders in public service.

11 WKU students earned the U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship for study abroad in the October 2025 application cycle.

24 WKU students earned the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship for study abroad in the March 2025 application cycle, more than all other public universities in Kentucky combined. Combined, their scholarships totaled $83,000.

May 20th, 2025

The Freeman Award for Study in Asia (Freeman-ASIA) recognized four WKU students as winners and two additional students as alternates. Additionally, the Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant was awarded to one student.

Two WKU students were awarded Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) scholarships for study abroad in the February 2025 application cycle. The recipients were offered scholarships for study abroad in Austria for the Summer 2024 term.

Seven WKU Chinese Flagship Program students earned Boren Scholarships of up to $25,000 to fund up to a year of critical language-focused study abroad.
