CSD Faculty Members Selected for National and State Leadership Opportunities

Bowling Green, KY – Two faculty members from the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders have been selected to represent Western Kentucky University in national and state leadership opportunities.

Dr. Brian Weiler, Assistant Professor, was selected by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) to participate in ASHA’s Research Mentoring Network:  Lessons for Success.  According to ASHA’s website, “Lessons for Success aims to provide intensive training to a promising group of emerging scientists in the areas of (a) grant preparation and funding opportunities, (b) development and management of a successful program of research, and (c) advancement of professional competencies. This grant-writing "boot camp" provides invaluable advice and guidance from senior faculty with strong histories of research funding.”  Each participant is paired with a Lessons for Success faculty member and attends a combination of lectures, mock reviews, and small-group sessions.  Only 30 individuals are selected from a national pool of applicants. Dr. Weiler will attend the 2017 Lessons for Success three day conference in April at ASHA’s National Office in Rockville, Maryland.

Dr. Kimberly Green, Assistant Professor, was selected by The Kentucky Council for Postsecondary Education (CPE) to participate in a new program designed to support faculty development toward academic and administrative leadership positions.  The Academic Development Leadership Institute is a year-long program beginning in April.  It involves a series of workshops, observation and shadowing of an administrative mentor in the Kentucky higher education system, and the development/implementation of an initiative related to leadership in higher education.  CPE requested an applicant from each collegiate institution in Kentucky and the Provost’s Office selected Dr. Green to represent WKU.
