Members of CHHS Board of Stakeholders Recognized at WKU Summit Awards

The annual Western Kentucky University (WKU) Summit Awards and Volunteer Appreciation Dinner were held on November 5, 2015 in Bowling Green, KY.

The College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) at WKU recognizes and congratulates three members of the CHHS Board of Stakeholders who were recognized at the annual event.

Linda and John M. Kelly were recognized as the Philanthropists of the Year.  John is a member of the CHHS Board of Stakeholders and is a dedicated volunteer to our college and community.  In 2002, John and Linda established the Kelly Autism Program (KAP) to assist adolescents and young adults diagnosed along the Autism Spectrum Disorders Continuum.  Students in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) work regularly in the KAP to gain skills vital to their future success in the field.

Julie Harris Hinson was recognized as Alumna of the Year.  Julie, a 1990 graduate of WKU, serves as President and CEO of Advanced Lifeline Services, Inc., in Louisville, KY.  Julie serves on the CHHS Board of Stakeholders and brings valuable insight to the development and relevance of our many academic programs.

Dennis Chaney, recognized as a Volunteer of the Year, serves on the CHHS Board of Stakeholders and many other advisory boards within CHHS and WKU including the WKU CHHS Public Health External Advisory Committee and the WKU Leadership Healthcare Committee.  Dennis is the District Director of the Barren River District Health Department and works with the CHHS Department of Public Health to create a premier internship program for both Public Health bachelor and masters students.

CHHS Dean, Neale Chumbler, states “we are extremely fortunate to have such talented and service-driven volunteers assisting our college to provide our students with a meaningful education and experiences.  Each of these volunteers continues to play vital and crucial roles in the success of our college.”
