Dr. Akers taught 31.5 years at Marquette University where he served as Department Chair for 13 years. During this time he participated on numerous AACSB accreditation visits for business schools and accounting departments. He has served on several nonprofit boards and he continues to serve on the board and audit committees of a public company. He also continues to serve as a reviewer for the Journal of Accounting Education. Prior to academe, he worked for Arthur Andersen and as an assistant basketball coach for a Division I school.
