WKU Economics Department Hosts 48th Kentucky Economic Association Conference
- Thursday, December 4th, 2025

The Department of Economics in the Gordon Ford College of Business recently marked a significant milestone, hosting the 48th Kentucky Economic Association (KEA) Conference in its new home, Amy and David Chandler Hall.
The conference drew nearly 100 economists, students, and professionals from 14 universities and colleges in Kentucky and neighboring states. Attendees exchanged new ideas, discussed current economic research, and explored policy challenges shaping the region.
The Gordon Ford College of Business was well represented, with approximately 20 students in attendance—including two who presented their work.
Paul Kyeremeh, a Master of Applied Economics student in the Gordon Ford College of Business, presented his research, "Time Allocation During the Great Recession." Kyeremeh said presenting at the Kentucky Economic Association (KEA) Conference helped him connect with students and professors from other institutions. “I also gained valuable experience speaking in front of people. Throughout the conference, I felt encouraged to put economics into practice.”
Gatton Academy student, Macie Conger, also presented her undergraduate research on Predicting Uptake of Pharmaceuticals based on Perceptions of Credibility and Risk Beliefs. “From receiving helpful feedback on my project to networking with professionals, this experience allowed me to grow as a student and an aspiring professional in economics,” Macie said. “I am very appreciative of the Kentucky Economic Association for supporting my research as a Gatton Academy student and for helping me to solidify my passion for the field.”
Several Economics faculty members showcased their research, including Dr. Stephen Locke, Dr. Peter Lin, Dr. Sebastian Lequizamon, Dr. Christopher Biolsi, Dr. Dennis Wilson, Dr. David Zimmer, Dr. Golnaz Motie, and Kevin Owens.
“Organizing this year’s KEA Conference was a wonderful experience,” said Dr. Motie. “It was inspiring to see our students present their work and connect with economists from across the region. Creating opportunities for students to engage with real economic research and professional networks is one of the most valuable aspects of the conference.”
Dr. Brian Goff presented the keynote address. Dr. Goff is a University Distinguished Professor (Emeritus) of Economics at WKU. During his time at WKU, Dr. Goff has taught 25 undergraduate and master's-level courses. He presented on Five Underappreciated Contributions to Economics. Dr. Goff was honored as the 2025 KEA Distinguished Economist.
