External Study Abroad Scholarships


Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship

Undergraduate students who are U.S. citizents and receive a Federal Pell Grant are eligible to apply for the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship. The Gilman Scholarship is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and is one of the largest and most prestigious scholarships available for study abroad. Students who are awarded a Gilman Scholarship receive up to $5,000 towards their study abroad program. An additional award of up to $3,000 is possible for programs including critical language study.

Application Deadlines: 1st Tuesday in March and the 1st Tuesday in October. You may apply up to two semester in advance of your study abroad term.

Gilman-McCain Scholarship for Dependents of Active Duty Service Members

U.S. Students who are undergraduate child dependents of active duty service members and recipients of Title IV federal financial aid are eligible to apply for the Gilman-McCain Scholarship. Those awarded receive $5,000 toward their study abroad program expenses.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, typically once per month.

Fund for Education Abroad Scholarship

Fund for Education Abroad awards up to 20 scholarships of up to $10,000 annually to deserving students who are studying abroad on a program of at least 4 weeks in length.

Hershberg Scholarship for International Study

Students with permanent residence in the Louisville Metro Area are eligible to apply for the Hershberg Scholarship for Summer Study Abroad.

Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant

Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society awards 75 grants of $1000 to high achieving undergraduate study abroad students each year. Membership is not required to apply; however, applicants must have a 3.75 GPA.

Golden Key Scholarship

Members of the Golden Key Honor Society are eligible to apply for the Golden Key Study Abroad Scholarship.
