Study Abroad Advisory Council

Study Abroad Advisory Council Charge - August 2019

In past years, WKU has had a number of different advisory councils that collaborated with the Office of International Programs (OIP), the office of Study Abroad & Global Learning (SAGL), and the Office of Faculty Led Study Abroad and Study Away (now merged with SAGL). The most recent iteration of the group was as the International Education Advisory Council (IEAC) which consisted of six faculty representatives, one appointed by each college dean. The IEAC did not meet during the 2018-19 academic year while the then new Associate Provost for Global Education and International Affairs implemented a reorganization of all international units at WKU. Global Learning and International Affairs, GLIA, is WKU’s consolidated center of international engagement.  GLIA and SAGL seek to renew the council’s charge with broader representation of stakeholders on SAGL’s areas of responsibility: all study abroad activities, off-campus study, international internships and service learning that transforms students and is integrated into WKU students’ programs of study. The Study Abroad Advisory Council (SAAC) is charged by the Associate Provost for Global Learning & International Affairs.

Charge

The Study Abroad Advisory Council will support GLIA’s efforts to meet the goals of WKU’s Strategic Plan.  “Work with the associate provost for global learning and with faculty and staff to continue to expand off-campus and on-campus educational opportunities.”

The Study Abroad Advisory Council will provide faculty and college input to grow and integrate off-campus study opportunities to the Associate Provost and SAGL Director for all major SAGL activities, including, but not limited to:

  • Strategic integration of SAGL’s transformative high-impact practices into the university and college curriculum, and vice-versa;
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of program evaluations and metrics;
  • Review proposed new international opportunities for students;
  • Serve as liaisons to the members’ relevant campus units
