Topics/Objectives:

Melinda Joyce, PharmD

Differentiate mechanisms of action, common indications, and safety considerations of disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs), corticosteroids, and biologic agents. Recognize adverse effects associated with DMARDs and biologic therapies by identifying  laboratory monitoring, screening recommendations, and interventions for infection risk, hepatotoxicity, and organ-specific toxicities.

Elaine Williams, BS, ACE, NHE

Recognize the signs of burnout and understand how it differs from simple fatigue or lack of motivation. Explain the role of the Autonomic Nervous System in shaping energy, focus, and motivation. Identify their own nervous system states (fight, flight, freeze, or regulated) and how those states impact their ability to take action.

Kelly Kreis, MD

Discuss the effects of cell phone use on mental health and academic performance on children and adolescents 

Jermaine Savage and Steve Chappell, retired law enforcement professionals

 Discuss the principles of situational awareness, personal safety, and the appropriate use of force as they apply to nurses in healthcare and community settings. Develop a personal and/or workplace safety plan by identifying strategies to reduce risk, respond to threatening situations, and enhance personal security.

 

KBN contact hours: 7.2 (1.8 of those hours is approved for Pharmacology credit)

 

The South Central Kentucky Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is approved by the Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN) as a provider of continuing education under the Provider Numbers 5-0026, expiration date 12-31-27. 7.2 contact hours will be awarded after attending the offering and completing evaluations. 1.8 of those hours is approved for Pharmacology credit.
